Constructing Reality is designed to stimulate students to critically examine documentary filmmaking, television and culture. This video looks at the critical choices which need to be made in the process of constructing and editing non-fiction films. The four films and six study excerpts in this section concentrate on images, words, sound effects, music and silence--the tools that filmmakers use to create an experience for the audience. A resource book which includes teaching strategies, discussion questions, hands-on activities, as well as notes on the technical aspects of filmmaking and on the ethical questions and creative choices behind every documentary film is available.
